Like
every other industry the success of Halal industry depends in its promotion
machinery. Halal logo and Halal certification has the power in its self. In a
research paper based on the views of stockholders namely Che Faridah Che Mahmood ,Rahimah Mohamed Yunosa and Nor Hafizah
Abd Mansora regarding behavioural science in Understanding the promotion
mechanism of Halal industry states that “ Halal certification provides Muslims
the assurance that the product as well the ingredients they are considering are
according to the Islamic rules (Sharia compliance). The promotion mechanism of
Halal industry anyways goes beyond certification.”
Let’s
first examine the meaning of Halal certification. Halal certification in Halal
food industry means examining the different food processes like ingredients used,
cleaning, and preparation, slaughtering, handling, processing and storage. It
also includes transportation and distribution on Halal food. In the year 2011,
Badruldin et al. stated that Food can be certified as Halal only when it is
prepared from permissible ingredients stored in clean and hygienic manner and
it is verified by the nutritionist. Products attribute whether it is Halal or
no cannot be verified after consuming the product by an individual. It has to
be verified by industrial convention. So while promoting Halal food, Halal Industry should try to highlight more on these conventions.
There
are different ways to promote Halal food industry. One of the ways is changing people’s
perception of Halal food as green. Trying to understand Halal principles and
practices people will understand the concept of Halal industry that it is
related to green. Green management focuses on reducing harmful and negative
impacts of Human activities on the environment while Halal certification
focuses on quality, hygienic and safety aspects of the product and also its
preparation. In a world where people are turning more health conscious and
environmental friendly, brand promotion coming up in association with
eco-friendliness makes a great difference. So, besides using only Halal logo
this aspect of promotion can also be used by the Halal industry.
The
need of educating people through promotion is more important than just creating
awareness about the product. Halal food takes initiative in educating people
the benefits of consuming Halal food and people includes both Muslims as well
as Non-Muslims. To know Halal food better there is the need to understand a)
Halal food procedure b) understanding Halal food procedure increases
credibility on the Halal logo and c) The importance of Halal agents in
promoting Halal certified food.
Halal Expo and Fair Trade Show Exhibitions can also add in creating awareness and education about Halal industry.
It also provides a platform for arranging conferences where different
mechanisms like Halal logistics can be discussed. All this further helps in
boosting the Halal food promotion camping by means of Halal TV or any other
digital platforms.
